For The Planet, The Animals, Our Health. Our goal is to provide the communities of northern Indiana and southwestern Michigan with an opportunity to explore many exciting flavors and options in the rapidly expanding world of plant-based eating. We bring together new vegan products and services along with dynamic speakers to promote a plant-powered lifestyle for health, compassion and environmental conservation. We encourage everyone to make healthy food choices and to support our local vegan-friendly businesses and organizations.
Michiana VegFest, Inc. is a 501 (c) 3 not-for-profit organization that is entirely run by volunteers. Donations and any proceeds from our yearly event are used to support efforts for the next VegFest.
VegFest is an annual food festival held in cities around the world to promote plant-based eating, vegan lifestyles, compassion for animals and conservation of the environment. Vegfests typically include speakers on healthy eating, animal protection and environmental sustainability; cooking demos with free samples; vendors for food, cosmetics, clothing and other goods that are produced without animal ingredients; and often entertainment such as live music or movies.
EVERYONE is welcome! There is no admission fee, and we invite all who would like to discover products, make connections with local vendors, watch plant-based cooking demonstrations, attend lectures and receive resources if they wish to learn how a plant-based diet could work for them.
Michiana enjoys a vibrant Facebook page, updated daily, Michiana Vegfest; two thriving Facebook groups, Veg Michiana (830+ members) and Vegans of Michiana (350+ members); and an active Meetup group, Veg Michiana (320+ members). Both the Meetup group and the Facebook group compose one PlantPure pod, benefiting from the support of the national non-profit organization PlantPure Communities. A little farther away, Kalamazoo in Michigan boasts a very active Facebook group, Vegan Kalamazoo (2.5K members).
Please keep coming back as we update our website for VegFest 2024! And don’t forget to contact us with any questions or comments.
Eating a healthier plant-based diet can prevent and even reverse major chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer, stroke, and diabetes.
Animal agriculture impacts the environment in many ways: it destroys natural animal and plant habitats through deforestation; it makes excessive use of water; the methane gas released by cows and other farmed animals contributes massively to global warming; runoff waters from fertilizers cause pollution and dead zones in the oceans.
VegFests promote the many benefits of a plant-based diet by highlighting delicious vegan foods through educational lectures, cooking demonstrations and displays by vegan-friendly businesses and nonprofit organizations.
