The name "Michiana," a compound of "Michigan" and "Indiana," represents southwestern Michigan and northwestern Indiana. This region is becoming increasingly vegan friendly, with supportive restaurants and businesses in South Bend, Mishawaka, Granger, Elkhart, Goshen, Michigan City, Fort Wayne, Niles, Berrien Springs, Three Oaks, Stevensville, Benton Harbor, St. Joseph, and Kalamazoo, to name only a few!
Michiana also enjoys two active Meetup groups, VegMichiana Meetup in the South Bend area and Kalamazoo Meetup; two thriving Facebook groups, VegMichiana and Vegans of Michiana, not to mention the new website Vegan Michiana.
Michiana veg groups organize many events:
- plant-based potluck gatherings where vegans, vegetarians and those curious about the plant-based lifestyle can meet, eat and share recipes and information
- outings to restaurants
- cooking demonstrations
- film evenings at a local home with free vegan snacks
Michiana offers great resources for vegans, vegetarians and those curious about making the transition as well as an active, vibrant and supportive plant-based community.
