About Michiana

The name "Michiana," a compound of "Michigan" and "Indiana," represents southwestern Michigan and northwestern Indiana. This region is becoming increasingly vegan-friendly, with supportive restaurants and businesses in South Bend, Mishawaka, Granger, Elkhart, Goshen, Michigan City, Fort Wayne, Niles, Berrien Springs, Three Oaks, Stevensville, Benton Harbor, St. Joseph, and Kalamazoo, to name only a few!

Michiana enjoys an active Meetup group, Veg Michiana in the South Bend area (320+ members); two thriving Facebook groups, Veg Michiana (670+ members) and Vegans of Michiana (350+ members); and a vibrant Facebook page, updated daily, Michiana Veg. Both the Meetup group and the Facebook group compose one PlantPure pod, benefiting from the invaluable support of the national non-profit organization PlantPure Communities. A little farther away, Kalamazoo in Michigan boasts a very active Facebook group, Vegan Kalamazoo (2.3K members).

Michiana veg groups organize many events:

  • plant-based potluck gatherings where vegans, vegetarians, and those curious about the plant-based lifestyle can meet, eat and share recipes and information
  • outings to restaurants
  • cooking demonstrations
  • film evenings at a local home with free vegan snacks

Michiana offers great resources for vegans, vegetarians, and those curious about making the transition as well as an active, vibrant, and supportive plant-based community.
